Monday night’s Q and A program (13 April 2015) began with a 10 minute discussion on vaccination with all 4 members of the panel denouncing people who choose not to vaccinate, yet none of the panelist’s were qualified in health or medicine or produced any evidence to support their faith in this procedure. The public was informed that not vaccinating was a danger to the community yet the scientific evidence clearly shows that vaccines are a danger to the community. This promotion of vaccines to the community by an unqualified panel was to support the government’s new welfare policy that will discriminate against the less wealthy members of the community. The Abbott government has announced it will be removing the right of Australians to obtain the Family Tax Benefit A ($2,100) and the childcare benefit if they choose not to vaccinate and he has also removed the right to philosophical exemption of vaccines. This breaches the international human right’s codes for free and informed consent to medical interventions and the Good Practice Guidelines for Medical Practitioners.
The issue of vaccines as a cause of autism has not been fully explored and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) has not disproven this theory. They have stated they ‘favour’ rejecting this theory but this is not based on all the scientific evidence and it does not include a study of the health outcomes of vaccinated and unvaccinated children. This study has never been done and if you vaccinate pregnant women and infants at birth, which is currently recommended, then you will never have a control group to do this study.
Yet the Q and A panel spoke about the need to make vaccination a default position without mentioning that most vaccines that are used in 2015 were introduced into developed countries after 1990 – a time when all infectious diseases were a very low risk to the community and they had been controlled without the use of vaccines. Since 1990 many chronic illness’s in children have significantly increased yet the panelists did not mention this increase in disease that is making many parents long term carers for their children and is a huge financial cost to families and the community.
It is time for high profile public members who do not have qualifications in health or science to stop professing their faith in vaccines and allow qualified people to promote this topic to the public. Vaccinating is not a social responsibility when it has not been proven that all vaccines recommended by government’s are necessary, safe or effective. These panalists provided misinformation to the public about vaccination and this is a danger to public health. Here is the letter I have sent to Australia’s health minister Sussan Ley and to the Human Rights Commissioner that describes the infringement on human rights in Australia’s vaccination policies that will allow experimentation on the population.
The question remains as to why the ABC decided to promote this medical intervention in a 10 minute grab with panelists that can only profess their faith in vaccination? This is a danger to public health. Medical interventions need to be promoted on informed consent and scientific evidence, not financial bribes that target the less wealthy in the community. The government has stated that the wealthy areas have the lowest vaccination rates yet it is bringing in a welfare policy that will tax the less wealthy in society and damage many people’s health.
